Review of The Age of Adaline (2015) by Lee C — 26 May 2015
The story is underdeveloped, the ending seems rushed and the male lead (Huisman) seems miscast in among his co-stars. This is not a movie where the plot engrosses you, or twists keep you entertained, but there is something special about it. Blake Lively is a revelation, finally moving past Serena, she plays the part with such an understated grace, much reminiscent of movie stars that are unfortunately long gone a memory of a golden era. Ellen Burstyn captivates as always, and Harrison Ford puts in his best work perhaps since his days as Jack Ryan.
The quality of the acting not only out did the quality of the material, but in a strange way made it better, its not very often that Hollywood gives us a piece of cinema we can appreciate these days, the blockbusters take over, and then people moan that they do not know any of the Oscar nominees. This movie is far from perfect, and its poor plot and ending mean it will not score at the Oscars, even though I feel the acting really should.
