Review of The Age of Adaline (2015) by Jarrad C — 18 Dec 2015
Blake Lively plays the titular character in this charming and extremely well executed piece of love and the perils of ageing. Lively has a trance-like aura that will captivate audiences to watch her every movement, giving a performance that is sincere and heartfelt. While some may find the movie to be a bit slow, every scene has its place in conveying a message of how long can you run from happiness and from love? The supporting cast is lovely and not underutilised, with Ellen Burstyn giving a touching performance as Adaline's daughter, while Michiel Huisman plays the primary love interest, giving some depth to what would otherwise be a one-dimensional character. Finally there is Harrison Ford, who surprisingly also gives an emotional turn as the aged William Jones as his present, past and future all reconnect in a timely manner, giving him plenty of material to give an emotional bitter-sweet performance. Is the movie perfect? No. But it sure has a lot of charm and a lot of heart going for it.
3/5.
