Review of The African Queen (1952) by Peter A — 24 May 2009
Great chemistry from the two leads in this allegory about marriage told through a boy's own adventure about a journey down an unnaviagble jungle river. Bogart is the drunken leery ship's captain and Hepburn is the prim Christian missionary thrown together during World War 1.
Shot entirely on location you can feel the heat and the desperation as they come across obstacles as well as the fear when they hurtle down unexpected waterfalls. This is due primarily to the woderful cinematography and the direction of John Huston.
One of the all time great romances and fully deserves its iconic status.
