Review of The African Queen (1952) by Jonathan B — 30 Sep 2010
Bogie is one of my favorite actors of all time and won his lone Oscar here, even though it wasn't his best role and was more for honoring his career. He still provides a lot of good one liners, of course, and has great chemistry with Hepburn, even though I've never been a huge fan of hers.
However, the film never conveys a genuine sense of danger and seems much too lighthearted for something set in the middle of WWI.
