Review of The Aeronauts (2019) by Humane — 14 Feb 2020
If you are going to write a film that is based on real events, then write the events as they happened. As many others have written, there was no Amelia Rennes but another man, Henry Coxwell, in the balloon with James Glaisher.
If you know this before watching the film, then it is simply unwatchable as it completely disrespects Henry by having his feat given to a woman for no other reason than to bend to the insanity that is overwhelming North American and the UK.
Women have accomplished much in history, there is no need to rewrite actual events to artificially pander to them, as I am sure people would rather see actual events where women broke barriers and excelled, and this is as insulting to women in general as it is to the memory of Henry Coxwell.
I was aware of the actual events beforehand, therefore I despised this movie from the get go, but did actually manage to watch it and can ascertain that it is not worth watching, even if you discount the fictional Rennes.
2 stars simply for some of the balloon scenes, that although green screen, looked fairly good.
Not Recommended, and SHAME on all those who gave the go ahead to rewrite history for no reason whatsoever.
