Review of The Adventures of Tintin (2011) by Seth S — 13 Jul 2012
I was a huge fan of Tintin growing up. I read the comics many times, so I had high expectations for this movie. It gets it right in some areas. The characters are spot on, thanks to the motion capture. And the story is fun enough. But it lacks substance. It's like a bone wrapped in fluff. No meat, but the fluff tastes good.
The story is of a treasure. The treasure went down when a boat, the Unicorn, sunk. A young reporter named Tintin goes in search of this treasure, with the help of a drunken sea captain named Haddock. Also looking for the treasure is Sakharine, who has a history with Captain Haddock's family.
Its hard to comment on the performances. But the voices all match the characters. The animators really bring the comic strip to life. This being the first completely motion capture movie I've seen, I can say, its not creepy. At least not this one.
Overall, I was wishing for more. Some flatulence jokes are entirely pointless. Also, little substance would have been nice, but this is a fun, adventurous movie.
"How's your thirst for adventure, Captain?...Unquenchable, Tintin." 6.5/10.
