Review of The Adventures of Tintin (2011) by Ethan K — 07 Aug 2012
A lot of People are going to make this reference "The Adventures of Tintin is like an animated Indiana Jones!" This could be both true and false. It's true it's like Indiana Jones, in the sense that it brings over some wonderful action scenes and the and the same sense of adventure, but is false in that it doesn't bring the heart. When you look at it, The Adventures of Tintin really doesn't have the same "likability" and spirit that Steven Spielberg was trying to infuse into Tintin... Well, not as much as Indiana Jones at least. That's really the only problem I have with the movie! Except for Tintin being the least interesting character of them all, but that could just be how he's written, I've never read the comics, so besides all that the movie is great.
Some... Or all of the action sequences are great, and some are just plain brilliant. I never got tired of the action.
Another incredible, big part of the movie is the animation itself. Wow, is it beautiful. Long looks at a desert, or over a burning ship look incredible. Using the same technology an Avatar, it's not surprising it's good looking.
So. Basically if your looking for the next Indiana Jones movie, you could find it here. I could easily see this turning into a successful franchise. But when you look at it from another perspective, it's not all quiet there. It's a good thing that the intense action, beautiful special effects, and typically brilliant Spielberg direction completely overshadow the bad.
Prediction: 8.5/10.
Score: 8.9/10.
