Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Mark D — 03 Aug 2008
In this film Errol Flynn created the ideal which every incarnation of Robin Hood since has been and will forever be compared. An excellent cast, particularly radiant de Havilland as Maid Marian, Claude Rains as Prince John, Basil Rathbone as the Sheriff and blustery Hale as Little John.
This handsome production is technicolor at its best, with stunts and swordfighting galore. The film deftly balances between action-adventure, romance and comedy in a way that Hollywood just can't seem to do right anymore.
Ultimately the film is all Flynn's, and this is him in his absolute prime.
