Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Matthew C — 12 Jun 2010
It's hard to see this movie without decades of imitation and parody baggage coming along with it. From Kevin Costner's Prince of Thieves to Mel Brooks' Men in Tights, it's the story we've seen dozens and dozens of times.
Also, the now silly looking costumes (Will Scarletâ?¦holy smokes) and strange, larger than life acting are a bit odd to a modern viewer. I've watched a good deal of movies from the same era, but this one seems to have aged less well than others.
Still, the sword fighting and stunts are nice. Worth a watch, but there are better action films from the same era.
