Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Bobby L — 27 Jun 2010
Starring Errol Flynn. The man himself. I grew up on his stuff, and he is one of the reasons I love movies so much. His scruffy charm. His quick wit. His great sword play. The man was the embodiment of fun entertainment, while still being utterly believable.
He also happens to be the star of the best version of Robin Hood put to film. Full of great action, lush sets, lavish costumes, and an immense amount of fun, this is how the legend should be told! The acting, especially Flynn's, is strong, and his chemistry with Olivia de Havilland is strong. The action is easy to follow and exciting. Sure, it's not historically accurate, but who cares?
