Review of The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) by Nick G — 28 May 2009
The classic adventure tale and the original swashbuckler starring Errol Flynn is still a treat to watch over 60 years later. Although the acting is severely dated with those rapid, pretentious radio-show like deliveries, everything else surrounding the production is fantastic from the vivid, portrait-like technicolor cinematography to the sweeping, symphonic score that's about as grand as when John Williams did "Star Wars.
" And of course, I can't get enough of those kinetic fight scenes, even if they do get a little hokey with that sped-up camera and obvious special effects.
