Review of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988) by Adam B — 26 Apr 2008
A visually stunning masterpiece by Terry Gilliam. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen couldn't have been made by anybody else in my opinion.
Gilliam's directorial style is unique in many ways, the film combines fantasy, sci-fi and Pythonesque humour.
The film's troubled history has gone down in Hollywood legend and you can certainly see where the money was spent. However, cinema needs mavericks like Gilliam, and its good to see.
Low tech special effects like models and blue screens in an age when computers do all the work for you. A fantastic visual spectacle.
