Review of The Adonis Factor (2010) by Graham B — 09 Mar 2014
In his follow-up to The Butch Factor, director Christopher Hines explores the gay male obsession with body image and the lengths taken to achieve 'perfection'.
Through a series of talking heads, he explores circuit parties, gay porn, avant-garde photo shoots, eating disorders, steroid abuse and a great deal more.
The ultimate question seems to be, does this fixation on body image make anyone happier? Hines just seems to present the evidence leaving any judgement to the audience. I'm not sure how effective this is, but it's an interesting documentary. Possibly a bit too wide ranging. I'd like to see Hines delve deeper into any of the areas he paddles in here.
