Review of The Addams Family (2019) by Thedarknerd — 26 Oct 2019
Hollywood wasted a beautiful IP to say "Orange Man bad" and everyone is sick of it. It's not that it doesn't live up predecessors. It's an insult to them. I saw glimpses of hope in a few jokes like Pugly's "Holy Hand Grenade" or Morticia dialing up her dead parents with an Ouiji board.
The villain is a very thinly veiled Trump parody. A big fake haired blonde real estate developer/ reality star who tries to keep out brave immigrants fleeing violence. The "moral" of the story is typical Bougie stuff that would doom the life of a working class kid, but makes perfect sense to Hollywood "citizens of the world.
" Destroy your family to side with new friend. An ending that makes a mockery of typical Addam's family morals about the value of family. It was so horrid that my (immigrant) wife demanded we walk out.
Addams family has always been about family. Andy Griffith wrapped in a Gothic Lovecraftian veneer. That's why we LOVED it. The great downfall of Hollywood is that the drug-addicted Boomers truly believe they are smarter than their working class customers and their disdain oozes through their "work.
" Don't give them your money. It only encourages them.
