Review of The Addams Family (1991) by Sydney S — 16 Aug 2011
Not only a film that brings back great memories of childhood enjoyment, but also one that has stood the test of time incredibly well two decades on. This is thanks firstly to the timeless manner in which the script and style effortlessly parodies gothic horror as well as lampooning society and culture without locking the film into an early '90s time capsule; and secondly to the incredibly strong main cast who never miss a beat.
The plot is somewhat simplistic and the narrative a little thin here and there, but what the film does right vastly outweighs anything it gets wrong. Clever, entertaining and very very funny.
