The bad guys were simply not intelligent enough to fool Affleck's lone wolf semi-autistic character, such as setting tripwires to activate a dummy bad guy so that Affleck would empty his gun into fake men in black.
The robotics founder was a walking talking target who unintelligently left himself defenceless - sometimes I wonder if you are better off being mentally challenged rather than being an idiotically evil inventor with no sense of selfprotection, especially with no unarmed combat like martial arts ::
