Review of The Accountant (2016) by Christopher Y — 18 Jun 2017
I wasn't sure of what to expect going into The Accountant. It starts slowly, following an accountant (go figure) who audits criminal businesses. It eventually turns into a Jason Bourne-type movie...only if Jason Bourne wasn't neurotypical. This makes for interesting dialogue and a few awkward laughs, and I think Affleck played an autistic accounting assassin (that's a mouthful) about as well as one can.
The plot was all over the place. JK Simmons is good, which is to be expected. I'm still not sure if they needed Anna Kendrick. Like, take her out of the movie and nothing really changes. Once again there's a lead character named Chris, so there's that. My main gripe is that the biggest twist of the movie was so predictable the characters in the movie weren't even surprised.
