Review of The Accountant (2016) by Hugo K — 21 Jun 2017
The Accountant tells the story of Christian Wolff(Ben Affleck). Christian Wolff is an accountant, who works for several criminal masterminds & organizations. To lay low, Wolff decides that his next client should be in some form of legitimate business. He finds a client, who suits his needs. However, the Treasury Department investigates Christian Wolff's day-to-day activities. Also, he finds major irregularities in his new client's company's financial records. This causes Christian Wolff to take certain extreme steps, to find out the truth.
The Accountant is a mind blowing film. Director Gavin O'Connor has successfully brought to the big screen, Bill Dubuque's flawless script. This movie may have started out a bit slow, but 45 minutes in, you will be hooked. The narrative deftly shifts gears from the technical aspects of accounting which may be a bit boring for anyone who's not a chartered accountant, to a non-stop pulse-pounding thrill ride. The twists & turns in the film, will leave you gobsmacked. The ensemble cast is superb. Ben Affleck is the star of the show, as Christian Wolff. Affleck effortlessly portrays the various aspects of the mental disorder, his character suffers from in the movie. Anna Kendrick is great as Dana Cummings. J.K. Simmons is outstanding as Ray King. Jon Bernthal is spectacular as Brax. Jeffrey Tambor is amazing as Francis Silverberg. Cynthia Addai-Robinson is awesome as Marybeth Medina. John Lithgow is good as Lamar Black. The supporting cast is excellent. The Accountant is a must watch. Get ready to have your socks blown off!
