Review of The Accountant (2016) by Alan W — 21 Jun 2017
Besides wasting the talents of great supporting actors such as J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick (again), Jean Smart, Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow, Ben Affleck's portrayal of an autistic assassin/forensic auditor feels more like a Funny or Die sketch and I just can't take his character seriously.
Desperately wanting to be a cross between Good Will Hunting and Jason Bourne, it doesn't really work and just fudges narrative logic by being mysterious and having the main character being omnipotent or just be there at precisely the right time and place.
It's not like he's Batman, right? I end up mostly laughing or rolling my eyes, sometimes both, especially that 'twist' of a reveal that anyone with half a brain cell would have anticipated.
