Review of The Accountant (2001) by Dan P — 28 May 2017
The second time I saw the movie, it was much better than the first. I think the scenes are introduced as different sub plots that it made me wonder what this whole thing was about. And I was a little bewildered and stuck in another complex plot.
That all changed the second time. It doesn't put accountants in a particularly good light, and it stereotypes them in a rather unappealing manner, but that is cool and common in Hollywood and society sometimes.
In the real world, it's a lot different. But it shows how strange people can be, and Ben Affleck played a pretty strange character and did a good job, away from his typical type-A personality a Hollywood A lister.
This came out a month before the 2016 election and I noticed it was financed by Steve Mnuchin, now Secretary of the Treasury and Trumps campaign finance director during the election. So a super bean counter, himself!! Is that any coincidence that the Affleck boys had to give to the Trump campaign, then later disavow any knowledge of their funding, when it was funneled through intermediaries? Interesting behind the scene facts, aren't they?
