Review of The Accidental Tourist (1988) by Patrick L — 12 Mar 2009
A beautifully subtle character study with tender and honest performances. Lawrence Kasdan wrote his finest dramatic script with William Hurt delivering one of his best understated roles (which is saying a lot).
The metaphorical approach to the voice-over is refreshing and avoids overt sentimentality. It's not exactly a masterpiece but the themes are quite touching. The film is simple, yet complex. Charming, yet melancholy.
A true gem of the 80s.
