Review of The Accidental Tourist (1988) by Paul K — 04 Sep 2009
There are hardly any movies that convey a sense of place that are set in the Northeast. Perhaps there are simply too many people and too much asphalt to notice the place itself. But Anne Tyler's books do convey a bit of the essential character of the Northeast beyond just the social culture.
Impressive set of actors on this movie, which somehow can seem to be both slow-paced and always interesting. The orchestration was over the top for my tastes, but the mellow emotional drama and life lessons are worth the watch.
