Review of The Accidental Tourist (1988) by Jeff B — 06 Jul 2013
I love this film, I've seen it quite a few times but I never get tired of it. William Hurt is perfect a s Macon Leary, a travel guide writer who is trying to deal with the death of his son and the recent split from his wife.
Enter Geena Davis who is perfect as the quirky and odd Muriel. This film does an excellent job at developing the characters without blowing their lives in our faces, especially Macon's hilarious family.
It's so great, after only a scene or two of seeing Rose, you know exactly what kind of person she is. Bill Pullman is also great as Julian. With a wonderful script and a great score by John Williams, this is one of the great films from the late 80s.
