Review of The Accidental Husband (2008) by Jens S — 08 Jul 2011
This romantic comedy is based on a rather fresh, even if unrealistic idea: taking revenge on the radio show host who ruined your marriage by making her your wife through hacking the according papers. That makes for plenty of confusion and wonderfully embarrassing encounters, or could, if the movie dared to go there and be a little more mean.
Fact is, Thurman and Morgan's character get along so well right from the start that there isn't even much conflict going on, more a running around with the paper work. There are some decent scenes making use of the potential, but overall there is just too much harmony.
Uma Thurman also just doesn't seem to be in her preferred genre with this comedy, her acting is quite over the top and doesn't hold up to her rather charming male counter parts. The result is not boring but kind of arbitrary at times, trying to add quirky scenes, like the cake tasting or the Indian Bar Mitzwa, that feel forced and random.
Could have been a lot better with a spicier script.
