Review of The Abyss (1989) by Andrey B — 21 Nov 2017
When I was younger I was in awe of this movie considering it a masterpiece. Now that I've become more experienced in movies I realize that this is an OK movie which heavily borrows from such films like 'Das Boot', 'Alien', 'The Thing' and so on.
It is technically brilliant and fascinating but is becoming too didactic and pathetic towards the end. Cameron wanted so much to make an anti-Cold war statement with this movie, like Kubrick once did with his 'Strangelove', that the movie loses a great deal of momentum.
