Review of The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) by Mike G — 26 Feb 2011
I love this film and could make a strong argument for it being Vincent Priceâ(TM)s best ever film probably only matched by Theatre of Death or maybe Witchfinder General. For a film that is 40 years old it is so head of its time, itâ(TM)s so fast paced, stylish, funny and terrifying at the same time.
Dr Phibes brilliantly played by Vincent Price is a deranged deformed musician who blames a bunch of doctors and a nurse for his wifeâ(TM)s death on the operating table. He then sets out in very bizarre ways of killing them, and they really are bizarre, especially the one with the tightening frog mask! The rats in the aircraft or Terry Thomas getting the blood sucked out of him! Also Dr Phibes has an uncanny resemblance to Bruce Forsyth! Great film.
