Review of The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) by Brad W — 01 Feb 2009
The style and flourishes of this film take it head and shoulders above many similar themed horror entries. This is seminal in that it no doubt is the original influence of both Seven and the Saw series.
The death traps here are similar to those you're used to heroes surviving, but the victims are just that. (Not heroes) So the body count rises as the traps and 30's art nouveu stylistic sets and costumes escalate. Price doesn't have to break a sweat with this one, but his vocal work is much appreciated.
