Review of The Abolitionists (2016) by Linda A — 29 May 2016
I was invited to a free showing of this movie through Nate Wade Subaru. I was excited for a free night out with my friend, but extremely leery of the movie choice. I knew it was about child sex trafficking, which of course made me think of the movie Taken. ((Shudder)). I fully expected a cringe movie where I would spend 2 hours turned away from the screen, eyes half closed, and a box of tissues in my lap. Instead this movie is a bit like the TV show "How To Catch a Predator" but with far more information on the countries they are in as well as the lengths they go to set up the stings. You get a glimpse of the impact this has on the victims through interviews where they hide their faces. In fact the only faces clearly shown are those of the perpetrators.
Although a very sad subject, the movie is presented in such a way you leave feeling hopeful and proud of those fighting to save children. My first instinct was to ask "how can I help?" It is a movie that will change your life. I strongly recommend everyone going to see this film.
