Review of The ABCs of Death (2013) by Kyle L — 01 Apr 2014
Twenty Six Directors and Twenty Six Ways to die The ABCs Of Death is an anthology that works although it is kinda weird nevertheless it is an entertaining movie at the exact same time and if the original V/H/S is a failure then The ABCs Of Death works a lot more.
This movie just features 26 short films arranged in alphabetical order which are directed by different directors from different countries. To be honest I find this anthology film really weird I'm serious.
Every segment in the film is super weird and it kinda makes you think if every director now a days is a weirdo or the screenwriters are the real weirdos when making each segment. One of the great things about this movie is that each segment maybe weird but they are very entertaining and fun and sometimes scary but some have a fantastic humor at the same time.
I did enjoy some of the segments in this movie a lot and my personal favorite segment is A is for Apocalypse and C is for Cycle plus I also love Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard's Q is for Quack which is one of the segments that I enjoy watching a lot due to its hilarious humor and execution even T is for Toilet is a great segment that has a fantastic clay animation and the clay blood and gore effects are superb while G is for Gravity is a cool segment and U is for Unearthed by Kill List director Ben Wheatley is a nice segment shot in the POV(Point of View)of a vampire getting killed by villagers while the rest of the segments are very good as well but they're still weird really weird.
The other things I like about The ABCs Of Death is that each segment is not only entertaining, fun or scary but each segment has gallons of gore and blood and half of them is brutal and extremely graphic pus raw and unsettling at the exact same time.
Out of all the Segments I is for Ingrown is the most unsettling plus raw segment in the film. R is for Removed by A Serbian Film director Srdjan Spasojevic is the most graphic segment in the movie and Xavier Gens X is for XXL is the most brutal out of the three segments oh and let's not forget A is for Apocalypse which is a great gory start for The ABCs Of Death.
While the last things I like about this film is that each segment has a lot of fantastic editing and some great CGI effects and I love the CGI in V is for Vagitus and the editing in S is for Speed is top notch and pretty unique.
Now for the downside. The only problem with The ABCs Of Death is that not all segments are very good some of them are dull, awful and terrible. The last segment doesn't make any sense but its not so bad at all.
W is for WTF! is kinda funny but a bit overhyped. M is for Miscarriage is a mediocre segment from Director Ti West but at least its better than his work on the original V/H/S and F is for Fart is just a random and out of place segment that doesn't make too much sense when compared to the other segments in the film and those are the only main issues with The ABCs Of Death and I wish all of them could have been better.
Now the acting is fantastic in this movie all of the casts did a marvellous job with their performances in the movie so far and I think V is for Vagitus has the best performance since Q is for Quack even though the other actors in the other segments doesn't have any dialogue in the movie they still deliver a magnificent performance in the film.
All 26 Directors(except for Ti West)did a great job with their with their work in the movie and some of their directing is flawless and patient and I love the way the directors in this film managed to handle their work on each segment so far.
Overall The ABCs Of Death is a weird but entertaining anthology that delivers a lot of goods from start to finish although it could have been better but its ok at least. This movie gets an 8/10 this is the anthology that beats the original V/H/S but in my opinion nothing can beat the unstoppable V/H/S/2 which is the best anthology ever made.
I can't wait for the sequel to this film titled More ABCs Of Death.
