Review of The Abandoned (2006) by Tamatai N — 10 Jan 2010
A gripping, beautiful and genuinely scary film. Things that make it great: Gorgeous and chilling cinematography, brilliant atmosphere and some genuinely terrifying moments. Things that let it down (and keep it at four stars instead of five): Poor plot development, a very obnoxious lead character and a slight sense that, like most horror films these days, it's trying just a bit too hard.
That being said, it's one of the best horror films I've seen for a long, long time. Highly recommended to those who may have lost their faith in the genre.
