Review of The A-Team (2010) by Joshua L — 07 Feb 2012
"The A-Team" 10 Scale Rating: 4.0 (Below Average) ...
As a fan of the old television show, I really wanted to like this movie. In fact, as the DVD menu popped up, I had a nerdgasm as the classic theme song played. I had my doubts, mind you. Rarely does an 80's series turn out to be an amazing movie, but I had hope. I wish I hadn't.
The cast actually wasn't bad. I could easily see them as updated versions of their 80s counterparts. There were plenty of lines that mimicked the show as well which was a nice nod to us fans. The van makes an appearance, and "I love it when a plan comes together" was indeed uttered ... but none of this was enough to prevent this film from being nothing but two hours of filler.
The storyline was weak at best. The action scenes, which should have been fun in a movie like this one, were cliche, boring and full of basic gunfights and explosions that at times didn't even seem to fit. Once you saw each character for the first time and were able to determine if you liked them or not, there was little to look forward to in the rest of the film.
Please stop making 80's TV series into movies. Pretty please?
