Review of The A-Team (2010) by Sam P — 11 Aug 2013

âHannibalâ? Smith - Liam Neeson has a good leadership quality to him, which makes him a perfect pick for the Colonel role. Because the crime occurs in the early section of the film, it allows us to see a more passionate Hannibal, which I found a good touch. It makes sense that âHannibalâ? would be emotionally hurt, and yet still displays great loyalty to his team, so a good touch.

âFaceâ? Peck - Bradley Cooper I think was unlucky in that this âFaceâ? was portrayed mostly as the pretty boy, often without his shirt, and turned him from a charmer into a bit of a slut, which is unfortunate. I do think Cooper was an okayish Face though, if they ever make a sequel and play him as the charmer instead of the slut, he would be perfect.

âMad Dogâ? Murdock - Best character, without a doubt, hilarious one-liners, good accents, actually believable as a crazy, would almost say a better âMad-Dogâ? then the original (controversial I know!) and he also was an impressive helicopter pilot, giving a reason for B.A.â(TM)s fear of heights. Copley had the best chemistry with all members of the team, and probably comes out of this with the best reputation, I really enjoy seeing Copley on screen.

Bosco Baracus - Quinton Jackson had the biggest problems, he was replacing the legendary Mr. T, and I admit I thought he did an okay job, they had an interesting story arc where Bosco was tempted by becoming a pacifist, which was a surprising storyline, and yet made sense overall in that his character was often the most violent, so it makes sense he would first have to come to terms with himself. Overall, Jacksonâ(TM)s UFC background made him a suitable Baracus, which was a positive.

Overall the A-Team were interesting in that their relationship was slowly built up through the movie, their reputations being built up with ridiculous abilities such as flying a tank in the sky (seriously), and by the end, whilst the film was imperfect, you can believe they had become a team.

Agent Lynch & Charissa Sosa - These two represent a paradox, in that both characters were portrayed well by Patrick Wilson and Jessica Biel, two actors I do like, and yet their characters represented the updated plot turns that I felt didnâ(TM)t work. Agent Lynch was a double-crosser and a very modern story aspect, whereas Sosa unfortunately made âFaceâ? look weak and desperate in certain scenes, cruelly chastising âFaceâ? at several examples. They both did well with the roles they were given, they just werenâ(TM)t good roles. Good actors, bad characters.

Reboot - The idea of a Reboot/Prequel was the right idea, the series had always started ten years after the original crime and had the A-Team already used to life on the run, bonded as a team. By starting at the very beginning, we are able to see the team bond together, get an idea of the characters they will become. Unfortunately where they go wrong is that, even though they updated the timeline, which makes sense, they tried to update it too much and add in several needless twists and double-crosses. The A-Team is supposed to be easy, simplistic and just good fun. This tried being overtly gritty, and overtly complex, which didnâ(TM)t really work it seemed.

The film wasnâ(TM)t perfect, it had some enjoyable characters and some good action scenes, however I think the story was a little shaky, and needed some work. A sequel, if it ever happened, would have good potential I feel.
