Review of The 9th Life of Louis Drax (2016) by Thegodfatherson — 02 Sep 2016
Surprisingly, Louis Drax is a film about family than it is all dark and grim. Alexandre Aja brings this moody drama to screen with a strong cast featuring Jamie Dornan and Aaron Paul. There is something mysterious about this whole film, that it becomes a strong reason to watch it.
The film follows the story of Louis Drax, a young boy who survives 9 near death accidents, and the relations between his mother and his abusive father, played excellently by Aaron Paul. The film feels a lot like The Sixth Sense and is heavy on dark psychological themes.
But, even with all the dark, Aja finds a way to bring light with knockout performances and a solid plot that keeps you guessing till the end. Louis Drax is a breathtaking cinematographized film, and not to mention the creepy score that flushes the film into a much more visceral experience.
A solid thriller, that has excellent examples of great filmmaking, and not to mention great actors. I would say it is a bit slow for some, but the premise makes your cling to your seat. It may make you feel uneasy, but this one is DEFINATLEY worth the watch.
