Review of The 6th Day (2000) by Shayna P — 31 Jan 2013
"No Man Should Play God..".
A half-hearted science fiction action film that most definitely delivers when it comes to the action, but falls way too short on everything else. The 6th Day delivers a great message, but this story just needed to be more thought out, everything seemed so rushed throughout the film, from the flat acting to the convoluted storyline this one just needed more time. I thoroughly enjoy science fiction action films and was left a but frustrated by this film, I needed more from it. With that being said, Director Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Turner And Hootch) does craft some hair raising action sequences and solid special effects, but that's all this film has going for it in my own personal opinion. The issue of human cloning is very touchy and downright interesting, and if you're going to make a movie on it at least take your time and put some thought into it please.
Arnold Schwarzenegger gives us another leading role, except I just can't let him pass on this one just for the simple fact that it didn't even seem like he put forth even a minor effort and that's the entire way through the film. The 6th Day also features supporting roles from Tony Goldwyn, Michael Rappaport and Michael Rooker, all of whom are so much better than this.
