Review of The 5th Wave (2016) by Tvjerry — 27 Jan 2016
Not being familiar with the novel, I was expecting a flick about an alien catastrophe. The first 30 minutes were promising, with devastating attacks on our planet. Then it drops Chloë Grace Moretz (with her shampoo commercial hair) into YA territory, as she struggles to find her brother and save civilization.
The typical tropes of the genre kick in (burgeoning romance, youngsters leading the effort, a sweet kid). That might have been acceptable if the holes in the logic didn’t make the whole thing seem stupid.
It was relatively well paced, but the action was mediocre and the teen drama dragged it down.
