The 5th Wave is a good enough idea with a mushed up middle. The beginning drags as introductions take place and the pace of the movie meanders along, but it appears to be (boringly) building toward something. Then the story hits a brick wall and becomes fairly hard to sit through. Once the movie starts to get interesting again, it ends.

The actors are good enough, and I've had high hopes for Chloe Grace Moretz since she charismatized Kick-Ass. Being in a movie that works more as a straight to DVD isn't what I had in mind this early in her career, though. She's stuck in a generic and uninteresting movie and can't make it any better by being in it. None of the actors can. They have the unintentional personalities of an M. Night Shyamalan film. I'm not sure anyone wanted to be in the movie.

The 5th Wave was intended to to a series, but I don't see any chance of more money being pumped into this failed attempt at a sci-fi teen romance love triangle. Maybe down the road, on a night when nothing else is on, I'd watch this again over an infomercial, but nobody should waste their money on The 5th Wave.
