I never had a desire to see this film because I was disappointed by Apatow's Forgetting Sarah Marshall and never forgave him for that. I just found that movie sexist and lewd, with no morals to take away. Perhaps it's my fault to expect morals from Apatow instead of Aesop.

Throughout the years, though, I've seen and loved The 40 Year-Old Virgin's casts' other movies. And here are these excellent comedians, packaged in one film that's universally adored. I suspended disbelief and watched it.

The film is awkwardly hilarious, which is a feeling familiar to anyone who has seen another Apatow movie. However, what truly made the film is something unexpected: heartfelt romance and optimism. I didn't know this side of Apatow, but after 132 minutes of evidence, I must concede he's more than one bad movie. Despite my reservations, I found 40 Year-Old Virgin out rom-com-ing the best rom-coms.
