Review of The 39 Steps (2008) by Chris C — 10 May 2010
Nothing new here.... same old 'ripping yarn'. Everyone except the BBC would find it dated, and redolent of the rather fascist views of the original author, which were tolerable in those days of Glorious Colonialism, but now just seem out-of-touch and parental.
The leading lady rescues the show, not helped by the script, and does get the last word (although it seems that RT's reviewer skipped the crucial epilogue scene.
The 'upper class twit' is superbly played, but somewhat unfunny for being so realistic (some mums are still having them in 2010!).
So enjoy but don't take seriously.
