Review of The 300 Spartans (1962) by Elizabeth T — 17 Jun 2007
Entertaining film. The argument of a film being "dated" is a little ridiculous given that all films get dated at some point. If you look past the date and production values and see the context of film making and film at the time, "The 300 Spartans" dosn't hold up to other classics such as "Spartacus" but is still a damn entertaining film. About as historically accurate as the 2006 film "300", perhaps a little more attention to detail is paid in terms of costumes, although fighting technique and the trademark Spartan ferocity in battle is put aside, probably in an effort to make them more relatable to people.
A suprisingly emotional ending too.
