Review of The 2nd (2020) by Imjustsayin — 03 Dec 2020
My overall take is that the movie was ultimately unsatisfying, because, as Jameswill noted in his review, there is no finality to it, and you're left hanging in anticipation of a needed sequel. It just stops right in the middle of the action.
I thought it must have been filmed to insert an intermission there, but no, it was the end. There is a great action packed opening sequence followed a storyline that ultimately comes together though you will have to suspend your sense of logic.
After a while, there was just one tedious and repetitive action scene after another, and after a while you felt like enough was enough. What I found particularly unnerving was on several occasions when our heroes were seconds away from being caught, they paused to have relaxed casual conversations that lasted far too long with the bad guys hot on their heels.
It reminded me of a scene in an opera where the hero rushes to save his mother who is just about to be burned at the stake and stops to sing a 10 minute aria, sharing with the audience how much he misses his mother and needs to race to save her life.
On the plus side, there were great pyro-technics, double and triple crosses, and much blood and guts though little romance. As they say, if this is the sort of thing you like, you'll like this sort of thing, as long as you're okay with having to wait for the sequel if there ever is one, to find out what happens at the end of this saga.
And by the way, I have searched to find out if a sequel is in the making and have found nothing to indicate that it is.
