Review of The 15:17 to Paris (2018) by David S — 11 Feb 2018
Just went to see The 15.17 to Paris movie about the three young Americans that foiled the terrorist attack on the train in France. They saved 300 lives. The movie is produced by Clint Eastwood and in a completely novel decision the three Americans are played by themselves.
Wow, what a courageous creative decision and it gives the film tremendous credibility. (I guess you don't get to be a famous producer for no reason.) I thought it was excellent. The build up to the climax really tells you a lot about how the mothers, teachers, U.
S. military (two of them were active duty), and life experiences prepared these three young men for, as one of them said afterward, "when there is a crises you have to do something." While the attack was going on at the end the crowd in the theater was silent, riveted, holding our collective breaths even though we like everyone in the world I suppose knew the ending.
(That speaks to the movie maker's art as well - to create dramatic tension when there is no factual uncertainty.) And when the movie ended and the credits came up, the audience clapped.
