Review of The 15:17 to Paris (2018) by Ming Siu G — 21 Feb 2018
This was awful. Maybe you could get non-actors to play themselves in dramatic re-enactments. But you sure as hell can't get them to emote properly. And you bloody well cannot put them in front of the camera and try to do a Linklater-esque talky scenes that are at least half-improvised, because, guess what, they're not actors, and they're going to say the most banal shit.
("We gotta get a selfie" repeated ad nauseum is pretty much it) The first act is full of horribly expository dialogue and scenes, the second act is dramatically inert, and the only saving grace is the actual attack scene, which takes up maybe fifteen minutes at the most.
