It seems pretty clear that the lower ratings are by folks simply not satisfied with real people portraying themselves on film. They rather be fed actors pretending to be something they aren't.
The film provides insight into things such as:
What people are capable of even after being referred to as troublemakers during the youth.
What people are capable of when they simply do not quit.
What people are capable of when they display courage while their lives are literally on the line.
