I think it is one of the great adventure stories. The critics that didn't like it are obviously against strong male leads in a war setting. Of course there is not much character development, this isn't Gone With the Wind! Any critic who doesn't give it at least 3 stars doesn't know what they're talking about, or don't like the genre.
