Review of That's Entertainment! (1974) by Simon T — 28 Jul 2015
Wonderful documentary celebrating the history of MGM musicals through it's classic numbers hosted by some of it's biggest stars. The narrators show the right mix of love & respect for Hollywood's Golden musical age, & even poke fun at themselves (Jimmy Stewart & Liz Taylor openly admit to their lack of musical talent, with the segments to prove it).
The real star is the collection of brilliant musical pieces, from "The Wizard of Oz" to "Easter Holiday" to "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" & "Singing in the Rain", this is proof positive, as Frank Sinatra says, that no one made musicals better than MGM.
