Review of That Thing You Do! (1996) by Kris H — 30 Jan 2018
Quite possibly my favorite movie ever. As a log time professional musician... Tom Hanks got it right. From the initial giddiness of hearing your song on the radio for the first time, to internal battles that destroy almost every band sooner or later.
.. it's all perfect. The music is in a category all it's own. Even though the soundtrack was written for the movie, it sounds like it was snatched right out of that era. It is pitch perfect as they say.
Even the fact that the band starts out with crappy inexpensive instruments in the beginning and then end up with expensive Fender and Rickenbacker Guitars near the end is something most film makers wouldn't consider.
Hank's left no detail to chance. This is a brilliant movie on every level. Tom Hanks rules!
