This takes a break from the usual "praising of iconic music star" movie paradigm and delves in to a critical look at the truth behind commercial success and rock dynamics. This movie is witty and it's unforgiving.
Don't try and watch it twice though. The song is supposed to wear on you as it is a catchy song - yet that is all it is - and the song is slowly supposed to go from representing success and happiness to representing a cursed life and irritation.
The movie falls sub par on cinematography but on nearly everything else the levels are pretty even. Acting gets the job done, good humor, good film technique, nice historical accuracy, etc.
