Review of That Awkward Moment (2014) by Amilcar A — 03 Feb 2014
Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller join forces to bring us That Awkward Moment, a romcom that is charming and funny but will more than likely leave you confused and wanting more. Romantic comedies are often from the point of view of females so obviously this movie appears to be different seeing how all the main characters are male, but unfortunately this plays out like every other romantic comedy ever.
You have the lady killer, the fun friend, and the man going through a divorce who all try to stay single as long as possible but cliche dictates that their plan will fail. There are literally no surprises what so ever in this film.
Throughout the duration of this film you know exactly what will happen within minutes of the film starting andf by the end you kind of feel cheated by it. There is an immense lack of plot alos. These are just random events that are strung together very loosely and gaping plot holes that you just have to accept to make it through the film.
It is really sad that this movie has such a thin plot, but what really saves this movie is the cast and how believable this film is. The cast conists of 3 up and coming actors that have proven themselves to what could be the new face of Hollywood.
Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan are great here and even Zac Efron shows off how he is not just a Disney kid looking for a job. All three bring their A game and you can see how much fun they had filming this.
Majority of the film is funny enough and the actors just make it relatable and fun. This film realizes what they were trying to accomplish by keeping this in the real world. The guys don't fall for supermodels here and they all have believeable jobs and situations.
Real people go through these things and it was a breath of fresh air for a film to recognize that. All in all That Awkward Moment isn't a great film, but it is very enjoyable. Yes, there is no story and you can see the ending coming from the very begining but you don't mind because these actors are great and the humor is present and real.
If you can overlook all these flaws in the film, thenI assure you that you will have a good time watching this.
