Review of That Awkward Moment (2014) by Wayne C — 03 Feb 2014
I have very mixed feelings about this one. While I found much of it interesting/entertaining, I really hated the "happy ending" and some of it is quite cringe-worthy. (There are certain selfish acts that are simply unforgivable.
) Stars Zac Efron, Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan are well cast, attractive and capable performers. (Zac Efron plays self-centered almost too well and I strongly suspect it's not all acting.) I knew Miles Teller was a talented dramatic actor but his comedy chops came as a surprise to me.
Director Tom Gormican, unknown to me before this, does an above average job and actually took some surprising chances with the material at hand. He deserves other projects. While the film is wildly over-scored, eventually, I got the point and figure it probably needed it.
As I say, mixed reaction here but, obviously, it did capture and keep my attention.
