Review of That Awkward Moment (2014) by Chloe A — 03 Feb 2014
That Awkward Moment is a romantic comedy that shows young people who are struggling on growing up with the concept of relationships and dating. Especially, in the beginning of the movie when Zac Efrons character talks about "the so" topic when a woman you been hooking up with starts asking the question on where is the relationship going from there. It is easy to pick up on where the movie would go on, showing three best friends who vow to stay single after one of them gets separated by his wife. They vow to never fall into a relationship when they pick up woman for there one night stands. But in the end, it never goes the way they plan it too, when they start having feelings after there hookups.
The plot is decent for a romantic comedy; it is designed to be predictable. We see all three guys, Jason (Zac Efron) who meets Ellie (Imogen Poots) at a bar, sleeps with her and after misinterprets on the person she is, so he bolts out of her place without leaving a note. Daniel (Miles Teller) uses his best friend Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis) to help him pick up woman at bars as well until they predictably become intimate. Then, Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) finds out his wife has been having an affair with him, so he leaves and becomes hopeless in love. The movie does have its emotional dramatic moments when Ellie needed Jason for his company. It plays well enough as we see these characters develop through the movie.
Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots and Mackenzie Davis were all pretty good for their roles. Most of them were great and did have fun providing some raunchy humor.
Tom Gormican did pretty mediocre with directing a romantic comedy. It does have a few good laughs but not plenty. It does have many foreseeable moments but it is still an entertaining one.
